Living in Athens, Greece has proven to be an awakening ...

Living in Athens, Greece has proven to be an awakening that I believe more Americans should experience. It takes us out of the comfortable existence of the American environment and into one that requires thought for everything we do.   I know it sounds tiring and believe me it can be, but as the storyline goes in Zorba the Greek, life is to be lived to the fullest.

Athens of today is a city that has been delayed, frozen in time I might say, which is attempting to change at a super fast pace.  A better example might be that it has been dormant trying to maintain itself while in a hibernation of government bureaucracy.  In the early 50's, the U.S. started using computers and today the power of the computer has invaded a tremendous number of homes, yet while all this was happening in the U.S., the Greeks where in hibernation until the 1990's.

Finally, its like one day you wake up and find yourself in the future, suddenly the people here not only find themselves buying computers that they don't know how to use but they are also connected to the Internet, the lack of television now has them searching for additional channels on home satellite dishes, mobile phones provide the latest answer to communication where it took years just to get a standard phone, and so forth.
