Being civilized in an uncivilized society

Western societies teach us through history, culture, and religion that we should behave in what society deems as the “normal”. We learn from psychology that the “normal” is the prevailing condition that establishes a standard within our society.
We are expected to accept the weakness and failures of others without reciprocating by violent actions to prove that we are above the “laws of the jungle”, and yet we see this happening more often today in western societies while we condemn similar behavior in other countries and societies.
Laws regarding the sentencing to death and execution of criminals are seen as a return to the “laws of the jungle” but people continue to exhibit inappropriate patterns that make us question as to whether or not we should live by those “laws of the jungle”.
As Guy Fawkes, the character known in the movie “V for Vendetta” (an excellent movie about the loss of freedom) but whose story was based on an actual person from history, said “The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.”.
As Guy Fawkes said wearing his Fawkesian mask, “We're oft to blame, and this is too much proved, that with devotion's visage and pious action we do sugar on the devil himself.” In other words, we create our own problems by not assessing the problem and cause correctly, and by taking inappropriate actions, we simply make the problem worse.
When asked to solve a problem or even vote on a solution, beware of the consequences that may follow. Solutions may have more depth of thought than what may appear on the surface of current issues as they can and will affect the future.
