A jobless society

Some business people appear to have lost their way when it comes to the basics of business.
Hewlett-Packard announced that they will implement new technology to reduce the number of people involved in everyday aspecits of working.
Their reasoning is to reduce the possibility of error to zero but as most people know or should know, the ultimate goal of every company is to increase profit and reduce costs.
The problem with this is that Hewlett-Packard is assuming that:
-
their method is error free
-
basic rules of business do not conform with extreme profiting
One of the basic fundamentals of doing business is the creation of jobs and work.
This does not mean that business should hire everyone in the world to eliminate unemployment but it is a part of humanity to provide work to the expanding labor market that is in the end the consumer.
Stock holders want their cut of the pie but if companies simply ablige themselves to stockholders as a priority then their efforts will be nothing more than simply "cutting off their nose to spite themselves". Should management even consider such an attitude when the latest trend in management displays and ignorance beyond comprehension, an ignorance that has destroyed the lives through economic failure by the avarice management that fuel rapacity?
What is business for that matter? What is life?
Should we adopt the following as a business attitude?
We live, therefore we buy, therefore we exist!
