WINDOWS RESOURCE #8
INTERNET EXPLORER SECURITY
Most system problems are caused by users! Yes, I know that it can be difficult to accept but the fault is not entirely yours.
The general computer user jumps on the internet and surfs into unknown areas only to be greeted by those who are looking to make a
quick buck or create havoc. They do this by taking advantage of the fact that you, the average user, are not a geek.
They make incredible offers to watch free videos or see incredible pictures with just the click of a button while installing a variety of software
from spyware to toolbars to phone dialers that end up costing you a fortune and loss of time trying regain control over the system that you
once had (or at least you thought you had).
Here are some settings that you could change that will offer you more protection. Protection does have it's cost but it's not
monetary here, it's just that when you come across some unknown sites, you will have to make the decision as to whether or
not you will grant them the priviledge of installing whatever they are offering you. You option of course is to ignore the yellow
bar that you will see and the beep that you should hear but in effect you will be taking the decision and not simply allowing others to do it for you.
These settings will also affect whether you will accept cookies on a temporary or permanent basis. For sites with logins, you will
usually want to keep those cookie settings permanent for a contiguous operation.
As a note, you will see that bar when visiting known sites because the settings below may also affect whether or not you will see
a navigation menu or a flash presentation and other javascript programs. For those sites that you visit often, you can grant
a more permanent access using the options that you will see when you click on the yellow bar.
