FIGHTING SPAM AND OTHER EMAIL TIPS AND TRICKS

Fighting spam using MailWasher

Here is where mailwasher comes in.  MW is run and pulls up a list of what is in the user's queue and provides the user with a list showing TO: FROM: DATE: and can show part of the email's text information as well.  From that point the user can choose to keep, delete, and/or bounce the emails directly from the queue using the program.

Without the mailwasher program, a user would run outlook express and immediately receive the emails from the queue, once that is done, the normal procedure of the email program is to delete them from the queue.  And so, this is how email works.
All of this happens almost instantly, as I have timed an email from Greece to the USA and back and all of the mechanism takes approximately 10 seconds on any good connection without the intervention of mailwasher.

One other way to reduce spam, is the use of OE email filtering.

By creating some additional LOCAL FOLDERS, (right click on Local Folders, then New Folder) you can have OE place emails into various folders for you automatically.
The same process can be used for spam by creating a email rules based on parts of the email so that the program will direct the email either to a folder or even directly to the DELETED ITEMS.

With Outlook Express or a compatible program such as Thunderbird, you can access your emails from the usual email servers to that of AOL.

For more information regarding email, see the Email Designs selection on the menu.
